Press release from The Central Oklahoma Cutting Horse Assn.

May 23rd, 2011  OKLAHOMA CITY, OK.  “The Non Pro plus The Open “ cutting horse event scheduled June 14th  to June 21st, 2011, will proceed as scheduled.    After a meeting with the State Fair Park Vice President, Mr. Bill Allen, The Non Pro Cutting will continue to date as scheduled.  Mr. Allen updated Show Manager Della Hillerman on the steps that the State Fairgrounds in Oklahoma City will be taking to sanitize the facility before and during the event. He assured show management that   measures not required will be added to help ensure they are doing everything possible.  The State Fair has one of the most state of the art equine stalling facilities and they will step up and do more than is required to help ensure that everything is being done on their part.   Mr. Allen is in close contact with the Oklahoma Dept. of Agriculture and is updated daily on the status of the virus.

THE NON PRO plus THE OPEN CUTTING event will move forward unless the Oklahoma Dept. of Agriculture or the National Cutting Horse Association request that the event be cancelled at a later date.  The State Fairgrounds and The Non Pro Cutting are working together to be aggressive and will be taking preventive measures  to help ensure the safety of the facility.

Show Producer Della Hillerman stated she will rely on the advice of experts to help determine the safety of the event.  “We want to do what is best for our industry and we will keep in close contact with the NCHA Staff and with our own experts to help us make a decision about the event.  In turn, if the virus has subsided it is vital to our industry to kick start the cuttings back up.  We will rely on the advice of the experts in the field.  We want to have the show and want everyone to come enjoy the event and feel comfortable.  If at any point we are told it is not safe to hold the event we will immediately cancel and return the fees immediately.  If circumstances force the cancellation of the event we will make the decision to do so at least 3 days prior to the event.  After meeting with The State Fair Park officials,  I feel much better about going forward. They are planning to use methods I would have never thought of to sanitize and re-sanitize during the event.  They are definitely on top of the situation.  I have kept in close contact with NCHA President Chris Benedict, he has kept me updated on the status of the virus and the position of the NCHA.  We all want to do what is best for the NCHA.   At this point we are proceeding forward with the show.   I hope that the contestants will have faith in us and enter the event. “
